Translation in English:

Toi Mai co-chairs Annie Murray (Te Arawa) and Victoria Spackman express the board’s heartfelt thanks to Jana Rangooni and Mele Wendt, MNZM who have completed their terms with Toi Mai.

Both Jana and Mele provided sage advice to the board and the CEO and had strong voices at the board table. Toi Mai is better thanks to their contributions”, the co-chairs said.

The board welcomes renowned educationalist Dr Kathie Irwin. Kathie is a third generation Māori educationist and says “public service and social justice are deeply embedded in my bloodlines. My passion inspires me to contribute to Aotearoatanga, nation building, in innovative and creative ways, that are framed by Sir Apirana Ngata’s whakatauāki (proverb) “E tipu, e rea”. This proverb speaks to the possibilities of Treaty based models of change that create authentic transformation”.

About joining Toi Mai, Kathie says “This is a historical moment in the contribution of education can make to Aotearoatanga, nation building, and I want in! I’m an educationist by training and by now trade – this is the time to get stuck in and lend a hand. In the design space. I am looking forward to the work!”

As an academic Kathie specialized in Māori education, research and development, for nearly thirty years. Her “second career” has been in senior management and governance. In June 2020 she founded Kathie Irwin and Associates – specialists in education, research and training and she serves as the Founder and CEO.
